Thank you Dessarina for taking me to yet another ELEVATED experience!!!
If you love poetry, if you love hearing people perform poetry... you need to experience this!!
People perform pieces on all aspects of life: love, politics, health, sex, family, child, poverty, and the list can go on and on an on. Pretty much ANYTHING!!! A color, a paper, the wind, the beat of your heart!
I feel alot of the emotions and have been through some of their experiences or I try to at least. A lot of the people who I have seen perform at Spoken Word are pretty intense. Its an element that I wish I could fall into, but I dont think outside of the situation... metophorically. I can try, but I feel like I wouldn't be as touching like most of these men & women who get on stage and RELEASE...
I just wanted to post about my experience at this past Spoken Word I went to. Rudy Fransisco was the special guest and he was amazing. I of course YOUTUBE'd him as soon as I got home and have listened to almost every piece he has performed that was captured. He was pretty deep with his pieces. I loooooove "Im not a love poet" ... esp the opening line "I want you to bite my lip until I can no longer speak, and then suck my exgirlfriends name out of my mouth just to make sure she doesn't come up in our conversation!"... the rest of this poem is amazing. I want this... I really do... I want to read this out loud to someone... Or vice versa. It was super deep!!!
There were other poets that got up but one in particular, who I wish I recorded... WAS AMAZING. She did a piece about the women in her family and the everyday diseases that they conquer. It was deeeeeeeeep!! But April (thats all I remember) was amazing!!!
But yes I want to go these functions more often and this year I hope I get a little more into it. Try and write a few pieces... just let the words flow... I want to be felt like this line:
". I swear when our lips touch, I can taste the next 60 years of my life..."-Rudy Fransisco
I wanna hear more... I <3 YOUTUBE for hooking me up with more poetry to listen to because I don't have HBO for some Brave New Writers!! :)
